If you haven’t been following the issue of the collapsing bee colonies, it is a very big deal. Short version: Bee colonies are disappearing on a massive scale. If the bees all go away, vegetation will soon follow. People can’t live without plants. Like I said, a big deal.
Here are a couple of articles on the issue to help you catch up. And Nomadhacker asks a very good question.
Lambert at Corrente has some information that suggests a solution may be right under our noses.
It seems that organic bees are not dying. And it seems that commercial beekeeping operations have been engineering bees to be larger and overworking them to make bigger profits. As Lambert says, rather like the beef industry. It’s an eye-opener.
The questions now are – will the media report this? If the media does report it, will the government notice? And will the scientific community investigate? If the scientific community does investigate and confirm that the problem is with practices of commercial beekeepers, will the government listen to what the scientists have to say?
What a country!
