We promote an end to the occupation of Iraq on the first Wednesday of every month, 12-1 p.m.

We Drink Liberally

We seek to cover local and state news which does not receive adequate coverage in the big media, and we encourage readers to send us tips for stories.

We encourage real-world networking and local activism among Southern liberals and progressives.

We encourage and support the development of a lefty blogging community in Mississippi, Alabama, and the Southern U.S.

Gene’O has 20 years of experience with many different forms of writing from poetry to academic research to technical communication. He is also a trained political analyst. He has a passion for teaching and learning through friendly conversation. He likes sunny days, dark beer, humor, philosophy, blueberry farming, Alert Readers, WriteChic Press, and constitutional government. He dislikes winter, white wine, concern trolling, conservative policies, received wisdom, mainstream media, and theocracy. He is a member of the Left in Alabama community blog.

Grasshopper has two decades of professional experience working to help Mississippi children and families overcome the harmful effects of conservative social and economic policies. She is a voracious reader. She likes plants, red things, having lunch outside on breezy afternoons, Leonard Cohen, reproductive justice, the Democratic Party, and feminism. She dislikes ignorance, environmental degradation, bigotry, poverty, pretentiousness, the dismantling of the social safety net, and mean people.

Actively seeking: Humorists, occasional contributors (weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly), and a co-blogger to update the blog during business hours. (And of course, liberals, progressives, and activists who hang their hats in Mississippi, Alabama or any other part of the world.)

Get Connected. Get Involved.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with one small step.

Of course you count! That “Mississippi and Alabama” thing is more a guideline than a hard-and-fast rule. I have a North Florida blog in my “Southern Voices” category, and I hope to meet some folks from all over the South as time goes along. I’m concentrating on MS and AL most strongly because that’s where I live and where I roam. Be welcome :)
